State-of-the-Art Materials

Hyper-Therm HTC is a recognized world leader in the design and development of advanced ceramic composite materials, coatings and thermal-structural components produced by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). CVI/CVD represents the state-of-the-art fabrication method for synthesizing dense refractory materials of the highest purity and quality, and is the preferred method for depositing high uniformity fiber coatings for all classes of ceramic composites. Hyper-Therm HTC is uniquely capable of producing matrices and coatings from many of the materials listed below either as a uniform phase, multilayered phase of two (2) or more constituents, or as a phase of mixed composition.

Hyper-Therm HTC’s selection of available CVI/CVD matrix and coating materials include:

  • silicon carbide (SiC)
  • pyrolytic carbon (PyC)
  • boron nitride (BN)
  • moisture stable silicon-doped boron nitride (Si-BN)
  • low dielectric silicon nitride (Si3N4)
  • boron carbide (B4C)
  • silicon (Si)
  • group IV and V transition metal carbides (HfC, ZrC & TaC)
  • group IV transition metal borides (TiB2, ZrB2 & HfB2)
  • group IV transition metal nitrides (TiN, ZrN & HfN)
  • refractory metals (W, Nb & Ta).
